I need a coffee break.

So, I am taking one.  And meanwhile updating my blog.

I am exhausted. I have been trying to baste (using quilt spray) and re-position this quilt:

This is my “Bright Hopes” quilt that I copied from a children’s book (“The Quiltmaker’s Journey”).  I loved it from the first moment I saw it and found a quilt pattern online to make it.  I am finally ready to quilt it, but the dumb thing keeps shifting! So, I am taking a break.

Finally, another snowstorm is on its way. Which I am actually thankful for because it gives me the chance to finish my Prairie Schooler “Winter Wind” piece.  I am close to a finish on it and maybe with the weekend I can get it done.

Winter Wind

I am enjoying stitching this one!

I succumbed. I did participate in the Super Bowl sale. I ordered two more Prairie Schooler charts (Spring and Summer), because I am enjoying stitching this one so much. And I also got some black belfast linen to stitch my Ink Circles “Hanky Psanky” on.  The silks are in the mail for Hanky, and I can’t wait to get them and do a color swatch! I did the conversion myself so I hope it looks good.

And a month from now is March already. And that means, Spring. Which I have mixed feelings about. I absolutely love Spring, but I am enjoying Winter this year. I am gaining confidence in my stitching, working with linen. And I love to sit in a cosy chair on a blustery winter day with a hot drink, my stitching at hand, and a good movie to watch.

My three thankful things (I wonder if Joanie is still doing this? I will have to go check her blog…) are:  1.  toasted cheese sandwiches which is what I am having for lunch right now, 2.  cross-stitch cyber friends, and 3.  snow!

Pure Bliss

Life doesn’t get any better than this.

Hubby took the kids to visit his dad on the way to a Boy Scout program…so that means I can soak in the tub with a good book for a WHOLE HOUR with no one hammering on the door, saying, “I gotta go now!!!” or yelling “Mom? where are you? MOM????”

I am stitching “Winter Wind” and loving it on the lambswool jobelan. I will post an update this weekend! It is so wintery outside right now, we are getting more snow in tomorrow and it sounds like another storm is heading our way next week.  We went to the library today though and I loaded up on books so I  am ready for it! I am going to read a new (fiction) book out on Knitting. It looks good and I’ll let you know if it’s a good read!

There are several Super Bowl weekend sales going on in various needlework supply shops this weekend also and I am so tempted! Will I or won’t I???

Three things I am thankful for today are 1. hot water  2.  sales!  3.  quiet evenings

I’ll let you know what I decide… but golly it’s hard to pass up a good deal and add to my stash!

Peppermint Twist

I just received this from Wasatch Needlecraft. Karen gives great service! She shipped it right out.

The 40 ct. linen is lovely and soft, but a challenge for my eyes! I love the colors in this though (I purchased it as a kit). So, I just ordered myself a magnifying lamp (with 50% off coupon!) from Joann Fabrics. They are good at shipping out fast so I should be getting it soon. Hopefully this will go a lot quicker when I get that magnifier!

This is my first Blue Ribbon designs project and I am enjoying it.  There is a Peppermint Twist SAL that I should join if it isn’t too late. It’s always nice to get a little encouragement from fellow stitchers.

A New Project!

I love this one! I am doing it all in hand-dyed fibers except one color (the Weeks’ Cidermill Brown).
It is going quickly but that is because lettering is easy. I love these colors!

I haven’t stopped stitching (I did more on Ann Grimshaw last night) but in the meantime, I made a small wallhanging for my niece.  I left one pumpkin for her to carve  

My problem is I love my quilting, I love my stitching, and I don’t have a lot of free time to do either! But it sure is fun, and one thing that inspires me is seeing everyone else’s work on their blogs. Whoever came up with the blogging idea had a great thought.

In all honesty, Halloween is not my favorite holiday…in fact, I wouldn’t miss it if it were dropped from the calendar entirely! It seems that there has been a progression over the years to the creepier and darker and wilder the event, the better. I remember as a kid walking all around our neighborhood until our candy bags were full! Back then, you knew your neighbors, you knew your kids were safe with them, and you could send your kids for walks without fearing they would be harmed. However I do love fall and the harvest time. If we carve a pumpkin this year, we will light a candle and remind the kids that Jesus is the light of the world, who comes in our darkness to bring us hope.

Somehow there must be a way to plug in more stitching time! These beautiful sunny fall days won’t last forever and maybe the cooler rainy days will encourage me to get more done.

New Projects

Permin Celle, WIPs

I found out something about myself. I love starting new things! I love picking out fabrics and threads to go with them. It is fun imagining the different looks with different backgrounds and fibers.

I also enjoy reading other people’s blogs and seeing photos of their finished pieces. There is so much creativity out there! It amazes me how the same chart can look so different stitched up in various color combinations.

Here is my Permin Celle chart stitched with a variegated black iris and jadeite combination I got from Vikki Clayton’s silks:

And here is my Hannah Beeby 1816 sampler, stitched with VCS Dragon Toes. This is the first time I have ever used Lakeside linen, and boy is it nice! It is a soft blue:

I am really getting into the reproduction sampler charts lately. It is fun to stitch and think that many years ago, a young girl stitched this same piece (but with very different results!) Many of them did not have the color and fabric choices we have today.  There are so many I want to stitch!

Fall Rain

It is raining today and promises to rain all weekend. I don’t mind rainy days, I think they are great days to stitch or work on quilts!

I have many projects started and need to make another WIP list, an updated one. I enjoy every project but haven’t been very good at finishing what I start. I hope to finish at least a few before the end of the year!

Here is my La D Da Quaker alphabet. I love the aquamarine fiber color in this one, another HDF (hand-dyed fibers) color, variegated aquamarine by Vikki Clayon’s silks. Wish I could buy one of every one of her colors!

Lovely Fall Days!

We are enjoying the crisp cool mornings and the lovely sunshiny fall days here! It is hard to believe summer has passed so quickly though.

I am working a lot on my Ann Grimshaw sampler. I will post an update picture soon! I love the Old Maid of the Forest color (Vikki’s silks) that I’m doing it in, and the Legacy linen (coconut macaroon). I think I am going to stash more of the Legacy linen, it has such a nice feel to it.

I hope you are getting some stitching time in!

Cool and rainy

We had a windstorm last night….whew! It was strong. I wondered how the folks down in Houston and Galveston were doing.

Today is cold and rainy. Perfect stitching and dreaming day! Dreaming of all the projects yet-to-be-stitched, browsing other stitcher’s blogs for ideas, and wondering how to fit in more time in the day. But a cup of tea and my stitching basket next to me are one of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon.

I am making a lot more progress on my Ann Grimshaw lately. It is hard to put it down, once you’re on a roll! I will post a picture of that next time.

And I am enjoying planning my neighborhood round robin. So many possibilities! It will be so much fun.
